Ingrid Z was born in Toronto Canada on the 24th of August, 1978. She graduated from the Bachelor of Fine Arts programme at Toronto's York University in 2001. At this time she co-founded West Wing Art Space with artists Karen Azoulay and Paul P. West Wing was host to over 50 exhibitions and thematic art parties, featuring emerging and established artists from local and international vicinities. It quickly became an energetic contemporary art jungle gym. During this time Ingrid also worked for international contemporary art gallery Artcore and frequently exhibited at Toronto's notorious Art System. In 2003 she moved to London UK where she started a fashion label called CHOPSHOP, devoted to glamorous pirates. That same year she attempted to squat a victorian mental hospital and turn it into an arts and culture venue called Fuckingham Palace. At last in 2005 she founded The Residence, an East London (UK) gallery devoted to international emerging contempororary art. Ingrid Z continues to integrate her own artistic practise into the development of other artists as she directs and curates exhibitions/screenings/parties in her gallery. |
