In Spring of 2000 fiesty young Toronto artists Karen Azoulay, Paul P., and Ingrid Z, innaugurated a new venue for the glamorous, the critical and the horrific. Host to over 50 exhibitions and thematic art parties, featuring emerging and established artists from local and international vicinities, West Wing Art Space quickly established itself as an irreverent, sincere and energetic contemporary art jungle gym.
At its Toronto Queen St. West location, West Wing hosted the essential Las Vegas style tribute to Toronto's Moose in the City project (Moosino), turned minimum wage lifestyle into maximum fetish art party (Minimum Wage Kinky), became religious fanatics during the 2000 holiday season (Miracle), celebrated its first birthday with a memorial (Dead Teenagers), hired a stretch limo to chauffer its dear artists (Status / Anti - Status), and hosted countless exhibitions and events ranging from pretty pink paintings to sassy strip tease. The final chapter of West Wing's storefront gallery space was optimistically brought to a close with I Believe in the Good of Life, a show of promise, positivity and the excitement of all new projects to come.
West Wing's current operations resist a fixed gallery location. To keep up to date with West WIng exhibitions and events, refer back to this website or submit your email to the list.
